Lau Lim Mee Pok T-shirt & Red Packet Designs

Designing T-Shirts for Lau Lim Mee Pok: Celebrating Singapore's Local Delights

Creating t-shirt designs for Lau Lim Mee Pok was an exciting project that allowed me to blend art and Singaporean culture. I focused on two iconic local favorites, each representing a distinct aspect of the authentic Singaporean food experience. Here's a closer look at the concepts behind the two t-shirt designs, which feature front and back prints.

1. The Kaya Toast Set

The first design pays homage to the classic Singaporean breakfast – kaya toast with soft-boiled eggs and a cup of kopi (coffee). I wanted to capture the comforting and nostalgic feeling of this well-loved local delight. The back of the t-shirt features a detailed illustration of the kaya toast set, emphasizing the textures and warmth of the toast, the steam rising from the coffee, and the creamy soft-boiled eggs. The phrases "Authentic Local Delight" and "Perfect Start to Your Day" add context and celebrate the rich heritage of this traditional breakfast. On the front, a small version of the illustration serves as a minimalistic touch, ideal for everyday wear.

2. The Fishball Mee Pok Noodle Bowl

For the second design, I drew inspiration from Lau Lim Mee Pok's signature dish – fishball mee pok. The illustration on the back showcases a vibrant bowl of noodles, complete with fishballs, minced meat, and garnishes, bringing out the colorful ingredients and flavors. The phrases "Comfort in Every Bite" and "A Timeless Taste" evoke the memories of savoring mee pok during childhood. The front design features a smaller version of the noodle bowl, creating a cohesive look while letting the back design take the spotlight.

Crafting Art That Resonates

Both designs aim to go beyond fashion, allowing wearers to carry a piece of Singaporean culture with them. The t-shirts serve not only as wearable art but also as conversation starters, sparking stories about Singapore’s rich culinary history. Through these designs, we hope to evoke a sense of pride and connection to local traditions, one t-shirt at a time.

3.  Extending the Designs to Chinese New Year Red Packets for the Year of the Snake

Building on the success of the t-shirt designs, I took the illustrations further by adapting them into Chinese New Year (CNY) red packets for Lau Lim Mee Pok's upcoming marketing collateral, in celebration of the Year of the Snake. The goal was to bring the same charm and cultural significance found in the t-shirts to a festive format, creating a meaningful and memorable CNY gift.
